About KPASS

Kanto Plain Association of Secondary Schools

Purpose and Objectives:

  • The purpose of this organization is to create harmonious operating procedures and effective communication among member schools for interscholastic activities as well as shared opportunities for professional development to improve teaching and learning for our students.

Mission of this Umbrella Organization:

  • Inclusivity, Open Communication, Shared Facilities, and Professional Development

Definition of Membership:

  • KPAHS = Kanto Plain Association of High Schools

  • KPAMS = Kanto Plain Association of Middle Schools

  • Associate Member Schools are those schools which do not fulfill the set criteria for membership.

KPAHS Membership Criteria:

  • High School (Grades 9-12)

  • Accredited by a recognized accrediting agency

  • English is the primary language of instruction

KPAMS Membership Criteria:

  • Middle School (Grade levels dependent on school context)

  • Accredited by a recognized accrediting agency

  • English is the primary language of instruction

As of November 2023, applications for membership in the KPASS High School organization are closed, with the exception of current KPASS Middle School members who are not yet High School members. This limitation is due to the restricted capacity of member schools to host interscholastic events, coupled with a full collaboration calendar. Applications for KPASS High School Membership may open if a current member school decides to leave the KPASS organization.

Event Participation Prioritization:

  • Full member schools are given priority, followed by associate member schools. Should there be available capacity beyond this, the decision to include schools outside of KPASS rests with the organizing school team.

Fees:

  • ¥130,000 per year for Full Members of KPAHS

  • ¥65,000 per year for Associate Members of KPAHS

  • ¥39,000 per year for members of KPAMS who are not already paying the ¥130,000 above as Full Members of KPAHS

  • All fees go into the KPASS Association. Finances are all held and managed at the KPASS level and controlled by HS Principals

  • Middle School Principals, Fine Arts Coordinators, and Athletic Directors may request funds from the governing KPASS HS Principal

Professional Development Opportunities

  • KPAMS and KPAHS may collaborate to organize shared professional development opportunities, such as hosting visiting experts or participating in common Kanto area sessions for administrators or teachers.
